'Ma Te Mahi Ka Ora' sign language

We are learning to sing a beautiful song in assembly called Ma Te Mahi Ka Ora.

It is mixed English and Te Reo Maori. We are learning to perform the song in sign language too.

Here is a group of kids performing the song in sign language so you can practise at home!

When we have practised enough, we will upload a video of us performing too!

Fireman Matt

Fireman Matt came to talk to the year 3 and 4's about Fire Safety. Here are some things we learnt:

  • Smoke alarms should work. We can test them by pushing the test button, and a small chirp sound should chirp.
  • Smoke alarms are used to detect smoke. They are always sniffing for us because when we sleep, we can't smell anything.
  • Smoke alarms should be in these rooms: every bedroom, the hall way, the lounge, the garage and the dining room. You probably don't want one in the kitchen because burnt toast can set them off!
  • Fire is very dangerous. If we find lighters or matches, we should give them to an adult who should put them somewhere high up so little kids can't get them.
  • Smoke is part of the fire. It is the part that can damage our lungs and stop us from breathing.
  • If there is a house fire, don't try put it out yourself. Close the door of the room and walk outside safely.
  • Get down, get low, get out fast. Meet at our safe meeting place (which should be the letterbox)
  • Call 111 to order a fire truck.

Fireman Matt gave our teacher some magazines. We all took home a magazine which has important information about Fire Safety. We know to watch the DVD with our family because it is important that everyone in the house knows how to be Firewise.

What else did we learn from Fireman Matt? Post a comment below!

Fireman Matt

Next week we have a special visit from a NZ Fire Service fire fighter named Matt. He will be talking about fire safety and the job of a fire fighter.

What questions would you like to ask Matt?

Post them below and you might be chosen to ask your question!

Don't forget to write your name after the question so we know who asked it e.g.

How many house fires start in Auckland each week? By Mrs Kelly

Thrillville Theme Park Game Review and Design

We read a game review about a game called Thrillville.
It is a game for xbox or playstation and you get to make your own theme park.
We wish we had a game like that!

After we read the game review, Mrs Kelly gave us 30 minutes to design and draw a new ride for a theme park. We had to think about the fun factor and also some safety features so no one would get hurt.

Here are some of our creations. Remember we only had 30 minutes so some of them aren't finished yet. Ask us questions in the comments if you want to know more about a design...

Riley and Yash designed Night of Doom.

Taraipine and Fiona re-designed the Fear Fall.

Avantika and Harmony designed Watercoaster.

Sharece and Ezekiel designed The Rainbowcoaster.

Meadow and Tyler designed the Death Ride.

Richie and Keanu designed the Good Coaster.

Rianna and Adiva designed the The Trace.

Kaia and Elizabeth designed the Monster of Doom.

Puna and Manaia designed the Soap Coaster.

Nita and Kashvi designed the Coloured Pool.

Iona and Aliya designed the Crystal Tunnel.

Gymnastics try outs

Today Mrs Kelly, Mrs Kilford and Mrs Taylor held try outs for the year 3 and 4 competition gymnastics team.

There were about 150 kids that tried out and we can only take about 20!

Watch this space to see if you made it into the school gym team!

Don't be upset if you didn't make it - you can keep on practising during your class gymnastics sessions every Tuesday in Term 3 - you might get picked next year!

Keep practising!!
